Privacy Policy
ClassroomPoints is a classroom points board for teachers. We collect as little as we can, we never sell data, and we never show ads.
The short version
- We store what the product needs: your name and email, the classrooms you create, your students' names and their points.
- We don't sell or rent anyone's information, and we don't use student information for advertising or profiling.
- Student information belongs to the teacher and school. We only use it to run the service for them.
- You can ask us to delete your account and classrooms at any time.
Information we collect
From teachers
- Account details. When you sign in with Google or Microsoft, we receive your name, email address and an account identifier. We don't receive your password.
- Classroom content. Classroom names, student names you enter, points, groups, and settings.
- Co-teacher invitations. Email addresses you invite, and who accepted.
- Billing. Payments are processed by Stripe. We receive your subscription status and a Stripe customer reference. We never see or store full card numbers.
About students
Teachers enter students' names (usually first names) and award points. We don't collect student email addresses, and students don't create accounts or sign in. We encourage teachers to use first names or nicknames only.
Collected automatically
- Usage and security data. IP address, approximate location (country, and where available region and city) derived from the IP address, browser type, pages visited, the site that referred you, and campaign tags in links.
- Cookies. We use a small number of first-party cookies: to keep you signed in, to protect sign-in against forgery, and to recognise a returning browser so we can understand how people find and use the site. We don't use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
How we use information
- To provide the service: show your classrooms, save points, let co-teachers and parents see what you've shared.
- To process subscriptions and prevent fraud.
- To keep the service secure and working, and to fix problems.
- To understand, in aggregate, how people find and use ClassroomPoints so we can improve it.
- To contact you about your account, such as billing or important changes.
We don't use student information to target advertising, build profiles, or for any purpose other than providing the service to the teacher and school.
Sharing
We share information only with service providers that help us run ClassroomPoints, and only as needed to do so:
- Stripe for payments.
- Google and Microsoft for sign-in.
- Cloudflare for content delivery and security.
- Our hosting provider, which stores data on servers in the United States.
Within the product, the classroom owner decides who else sees a classroom: co-teachers they invite, and anyone they give the read-only parent link. We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of our users or the service.
Schools, FERPA and COPPA
When a teacher or school uses ClassroomPoints, we act on their behalf as a service provider. Student information is used only for the educational purpose the school directs, remains under the school's control, and is not re-disclosed except as described here. Schools that need a signed data privacy agreement can contact us.
ClassroomPoints is designed for teachers. Children don't create accounts. Where a teacher uses the service with students under 13, the teacher or school provides consent on behalf of parents for this educational use, as permitted under COPPA.
Retention and deletion
We keep classroom data while your account is active. You can edit or remove students at any time. To delete your account or a classroom entirely, email us and we'll remove it within 30 days, except where we must keep billing records for legal or tax reasons. Backups are overwritten on a rolling basis.
Security
All connections use HTTPS. Access to classrooms requires sign-in and is limited to the owner and people they share with. Sign-in is handled by Google and Microsoft, so we never store passwords. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach affecting your information, we'll notify you as required by law.
Your choices and rights
You can view and update your classrooms in the app, and ask us to access, correct, export or delete your information. Parents who want to review or delete their child's information should contact the child's teacher or school, who controls it; we'll help them fulfil the request.
Changes
If we make material changes, we'll update the date above and let account holders know before they take effect.
